Located in between Tokyo and Osaka along the Pacific coast, Shizuoka is a great destination for short trips outside busy Tokyo.
Shizuoka is famous for its beautiful scenery, onsen, good sushi/sashimi and of course Mt. Fuji. But did you know that Shizuoka is also famous as a diving trip destination for local divers?
There are two major routes to Shizuoka, you can either take a train from Tokyo station or rent a car and drive from your hotel. It’s only around 3.5 hrs drive from downtown Tokyo.
“Tago Sehama Kaisui-yokujo (Tagosehama Beach)” is a great place for snorkeling and diving in Nishiizu, a town located in in Kamo District, Shizuoka. The beach is surrounded by big rocks and because of a rather calm sea, you can expect a high visibility on good days.
You can even get to do a little adventure going through caves!
Today wasn’t the best day for snorkeling in Shizuoka because of the recent typhoon but we still got to see some colorful fish.
If you prefer “less-rocky” beaches, there are sandy beaches like this one along the coast.
So, what about Nishiizu, Shizuoka as your next snorkeling trip destination? 😉
